Stockton, Calif. - Ten student-athletes from women's water polo, women's swimming, field hockey and cross country helped kick off the Tigers' Read to Win Program. Student-athletes read to children at Brookside Elementary School and invited them to take part in the Read to Win Program where students earn a free ticket to a game of their choice after reading 20 books.
The goal of the athletics department along with the Pacific Student-Athlete Council (PSAC) is to encourage literacy in the elementary schools of Stockton and to reward them with free game tickets. Any schools interested in participating in this program should contact Holly Trexler at (209) 946-2307.
The Read to Win program is one of several promotions that Pacific Athletics is participating in to encourage literacy in San Joaquin County. Previous and current programs include: Family Day at the Park - The Record's Literacy and Book Fair, Men's Basketball's Readers Watch Tigers Program and Barnes and Noble's Holiday Book Drive Benefiting San Joaquin A+.
