Pacific Athletics Announces Return Of Pacific Athletic Foundation

University of the Pacific Intercollegiate Athletics is reforming the Pacific Tigers Athletics Association and reclaiming the original Pacific Athletic Foundation name, under which the athletic program’s fund-raising organization debuted in 1970.

The change is part of Pacific Athletics’ Five Year Strategic Plan unveiled earlier this year by University Vice President for External Affairs and Athletics Ted Leland. Any annual donation to athletics will be part of a PAF membership. It is a four-fund organization, with the funds being PAF Scholarship, PAF Sport-Specific, PAF Gifts-In-Kind and PAF Endowed Funds.

“After spending several months reviewing past numbers and current fundraising trends in the department and nation, I feel it is time for some changes in athletics annual giving,” said Leland. “I believe this new athletic fund will give us an opportunity to increase retention as well as new donations.”

The PAF is a support organization for the athletics department and provides financial support for athletic scholarships as well as sport-specific operations.

Depending on the giving level, donors are eligible to receive such benefits as preferred parking, pre-game hospitalities and access to the best Alex G. Spanos Center seats as well as a variety of other benefits. Each PAF members' giving level and benefits will be calculated based on the total cash and gifts-in-kind (trade) given to the department during the fiscal year. All cash and trade donations are valued the same on the PAF benefits chart.

“Increasing donations is vital for Pacific Athletics to succeed,” said PAF board member and long-time donor Rick Paulsen. “These changes give Pacific a chance to grow support for the scholarship fund and team operations. The community needs to rally around the changes and support Pacific.”

“As President of the PAF Board, I am looking forward to the changes that lie ahead,” said PAF Board President Vince Rosato.  “As we change our name to the PAF (Pacific Athletic Foundation) we are expecting renewed enthusiasm, as well as becoming a more visible and active organization in the efforts of fundraising in order to support our student-athletes through scholarships.  As well as retaining our current membership, we will be actively recruiting new members.  As our annual fund drive is fast approaching, we ask for your support.”
