Pacific Teams Up With University Plaza Waterfront Hotel

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific Vice President and Athletic Director Ted Leland is pleased to announce that Pacific Athletics has entered into a 5-year marketing agreement with the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel and their owner Patrick K. Willis that runs through the 2016-17 school year.  As part of the agreement, the hotel has purchased in-game radio advertising as well as marketing space in the Alex G. Spanos Center, while Pacific Athletics has agreed to host a number of events at the hotel and make its best efforts to have student-athletes rent/lease a minimum of 20 beds annually at the hotel.  In addition, the hotel has agreed to partner with the University to redecorate their President’s Suite into an orange and black themed “Tiger Suite” complete with Pacific memorabilia and images of the iconic Stockton campus.  Pacific is proud of this new partnership with our second “Home of the Pacific Tigers”.

Located a few blocks away from University of the Pacific’s campus, the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel is opening up lease applications for students looking for a different option for off-campus housing. The newly renovated University Lofts, located on the upper floors of the Waterfront hotel, will offer Pacific students a combination of a fully furnished dorm and condo-style living.

The University Lofts were first introduced to students during a Tiger Nights event in September that took place on the hotel’s property. Students were given a chance to take a look at what were originally intended to be penthouse condominiums, now converted into student housing. With this conversion comes amenities such as Wi-Fi, room service, private bathrooms, and a weekly cleaning service. Students are essentially living a hotel lifestyle, with access to the hotel outdoor heated pool, whirlpool spa, and fitness center. Food is also available at the hotel restaurant, The Delta Bistro, which offers a 20% discount for Pacific students and faculty with Pacific ID and is compatible with PacificCARD™.

University Loft living introductory rates are currently starting at $499 a month per bed, compared to the listed price of Pacific on-campus housing for the 2011-2012 term of $11,688 per academic year. "This is definitely an affordable option." commented Preet Kaur, a junior Pacific, and one of the first students to move into a loft. Dorm-style rooms come with a flat screen T.V., work desk, bed, and full fridge and microwave. Condo-style lofts are fully furnished with state-of-the art kitchen appliances, laundry machines and contemporary furniture. When fully occupied, the housing project is designed to hold more than 400 students. There will also be free daily shuttle service or on-call for those students who don’t own a car to get to class.

This is not the first time student housing has been run privately, separate from the university. The Waterfront Hotel’s business plan is one that is becoming increasingly popular regarding student housing. Several public schools have lent out housing developments to private companies, University of Kentucky recently turned over its entire student housing to a private company to manage and remodel. The University Lofts plan to have their major move-ins coincide with the start of academic terms at Pacific.
