About Klein Family Field
The construction of Klein Family Field provided Pacific Baseball with its first home on campus since moving the university to its Stockton location. Opened on April 18, 2006 for the Tigers' win over Nevada, 8-3, Klein Family Field plays host to all Pacific home games, local tournaments, camps, and high school play-offs. The field was made possible through a generous donation of the Klein family.
Family patriarch Sol Klein came to Stockton in 1917 and soon
became known as the father of youth baseball. He established a
16-team grammar school league, donating uniforms and equipment to
poor children; helped found Little League Baseball in Stockton, and
was one of the founders and the first president of the Stockton
Baseball Club, now the Stockton Ports. His son, Bud Klein, played
baseball for the Pacific Tigers and then the Stanford Cardinal
before he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1950. While Bud did
not pursue a major league baseball career, he has brought the
University great honor by entrusting to it the education of
numerous family members.
Bob Corkern, a spokesman for the Klein family, said the gift to
Pacific's baseball program was prompted as much by their enthusiasm
for the University as it was their love of the game. University of
the Pacific Director of Athletics Lynn King maintains that the
community also benefits from the new baseball complex. Summer camps
and youth leagues use the facilities when not used by the
university, and the ability to host college tournaments and
playoffs is expected to bring economic benefits to local
business.
During the fall of 2007 the Tigers continued to renovate Klein Family Field, adding new batting cages and lights to the ballpark. Construction continued in 2009 with the building of luxury suites in the upper concourse, providing heating/air with indoor seating. In the fall of 2010, both home and visitor bullpens were renovated to include all-weather turf.
Future construction will include structures for both restrooms and concessions to be housed on the concourse of Klein Family field on both the first and third base lines; in addition, an adjacent practice field, indoor batting cages, and a clubhouse is part of the master plan.
