Stockton, Calif. - Swimming their first meet since their winter break, the Pacific women's swim team dropped a dual meet match to UC Davis at home on Saturday, January 18, 182-80. The meet was the second to last of the regular season for the Tigers as they prepare for the MPSF Championships.
Back in the pool after nearly a two-month competitive layoff, the Tigers swam well despite being short on depth against the Aggies who came into Stockton as the reigning conference champions. On the day, the Tigers picked up a trio of event victories, all of which finished as top dual meet times for their respective Pacific swimmers.
The first Tiger to score a victory for Pacific was junior MaryElla Randall who sprinted for the win in the 50 Free. The junior grabbed the victory by nearly one second as she touched the wall in a time of 24.17. The win in the 50 Free was the third for Randall on the season who also grabbed the event win against Nevada and Cal State Bakersfield earlier in the season.
Two events later, sophomore Haley Preston picked up the win in the 200 Back, outpacing the field by over one second. She touched in a time of 2:05.04 for her third 200 Back victory of the year as she followed Randall's lead in all three meets in which the junior won the 50 Free.
Not to be outdone, freshman Margaux Verger Gourson continued her stellar first season in the orange and black as the grabbed the top spot in the 500 Free with a time of 4:59.26. Verger Gourson has posted wins now in 10 events on the year, a team-best for the women in 2013-14. The first year Tiger has recorded at least one event victory in every meet she has been a part of on the year.
The Tigers are back in the pool on Saturday, January 25, when they swim a double dual meet against UC Santa Barbara and LMU at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The final meet of the regular season is scheduled for 10:00 am.
