Stockton, Calif. - Pacific pounded out another 14 hits in game two to sweep a doubleheader from Brown Saturday at Klein Family Field. Kyle Crawford went 8.1 innings in the 11-4 win in the nightcap.
Senior SS Garrett Borba drove in three runs with a two-for-three day including a triple. Senior CF/SS Josh Simms went two-for-three with an RBI, and junior 3B Dustin Torchio turned in a two-for-five day at the plate with two runs batted in. Sophomore C Jason Taasaas added a two-run double in three at-bats, while redshirt freshman 1B Erik Lockwood posted a pair of hits in three at bats.
The Tigers recorded six extra-base hits, including five doubles.
Pacific plated six in the second inning, as sophomore DH Riley Drongesen singled and senior RF Allen Riley walked before Taasaas brought home two with a double to left center. After a hit by pitch, Borba delivered a triple to the left-centerfield gap. Simms dropped down a squeeze bunt to plate Borba, and sophomore 2B Curtis Gomez doubled to left center. Torchio added an RBI single up the middle to cap the six-run frame.
The Tigers scored four more in the third, as Riley doubled to right center, Taasaas was plunked with a pitch and Lockwood doubled to right. Freshman LF Taylor Murphy added an RBI single, and Borba followed with a single to center to plate Lockwood. With the bases loaded, the Tigers added another run on a double-play ball to lead 10-0 after three.
The Bears tallied three in the top of the fourth, as Graham Tyler doubled and Cody Slaughter followed with an RBI single. RHP/DH Will Marcal doubled to left and Lucas Whitehill and Matt DeRenzi added RBI singles.
Marcal (0-3) departed after three innings, allowing 10 hits and 10 earned runs. RHP Ed Fitzpatrick held the Tigers in check with four shutout innings allowing one hit, but the Tigers added a run in the eighth off of LHP Walter Albee. Simms singled with one out and came in to score on a two-out double to right by Torchio.
In the ninth, Crawford walked the leadoff man, and coaxed an infield groundout. RHP Jared Wagner got F John Sheridan to hit a routine groundout, but the runner trotted home from third on the second out of the inning. Wagner then ended the game on a grounder to second base.
Crawford (2-2) allowed 10 hits and four earned while striking out three.
For the day, Lockwood finished five-for-seven with two doubles and 3 RBI, while Gomez was 5-for-10 with a pair of doubles. Drongesen collected four hits including a triple in eight at bats with two RBI, while Simms added a three-for-six day with a pair of walks, two RBI and three runs scored.
The Tigers improve to 6-16 on the season while Brown falls to 1-9. Game three of the four-game series is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Klein Family Field.
