Benson Named Big West Pitcher of the Week

Stockton, Calif. - Pacific freshman Michael Benson was named Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week Monday. The 6-4 right-hand pitcher earned the accolades for his complete-game shutout over Brown on Saturday.

He also was named the Big West Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Benson required just 95 pitchers to whitewash Brown, as he scattered six hits, walking none in the Tigers' 10-0 win over the Bears in the first game of a double-header.  With two double-plays on the infield and a would-be base-stealer thrown out, he did not allow a runner to advance as far as second base.

He struck out a season-high six batters, fanning four swinging and lulling two Bears into hibernation on called strike threes.

He also was named the Big West Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Benson's first collegiate shutout and complete game improved his record to  2-3 on the season and lowered his season ERA to 3.38. In 29.1 innings, he's struck out 18 batters against nine walks.

The Tigers (7-16) have won three straight and will go for the four-game sweep of Brown Monday night at 6 p.m.
