Pacific Baseball Falls To UC Irvine In Game Three

Irvine, Calif. - UC Irvine's Phillip Ferragamo and Jimmy Litchfield held the Tigers to six hits in a 6-0 win over Pacific Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the Big West opening series.

Six Tigers posted singles, as sophomore C Jason Taasaas went one-for-two with a walk, but Pacific couldn't push a man past second base all game.

The Anteaters opened the game with five consecutive hits to take an early 3-0 lead. After a double by Tommy Reyes set up second and third with no one out, Jordan Fox, Connor Spencer and Christian Ramirez tallied three-straight RBI singles. UC Irvine led 3-0 before the Tigers picked up an out.

Freshman starter RHP Michael Hager settled down after that, posting back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the first and retiring nine of the next 11. He kept the Anteaters off the scoreboard again until the sixth.

Reyes doubled to left to plate Chris Rabago, and came into score on a triple to right by Spener. Ramirez followed with a single to left as the Anteaters doubled their lead to 6-0.

Hager (1-2) allowed 14 hits through six innings, walking none while striking out three. All six runs were charged to his record.

Senior RHP Jared Wagner tossed two perfect innings for Pacific out of the bullpen.

Senior CF Brett Christopher singled in the third but was stranded, while junior PH/LF Jacob Goulder and Jason Taasaas posted back-to-back singles in the seventh. But with two men away, Ferragamo (3-2) ended the threat with a strikeout. Redshirt freshman 1B Erik Lockwood added a single with two away in the ninth, but Litchfield struck out four in his two innings of work.

Goulder added a highlight reel grab in left center, laying out to rob DJ Crumlich.

UC Irvine improves to 17-9 overall, 3-0 in the Big West.

The Tigers (8-19, 0-3 Big West) will return home to face Nevada at Klein Family Field at 6 p.m. on Monday.
