Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team continues an eight-game home stand with a three-game series against Big West foe UC Riverside. The Tigers and Highlanders will open the set on Friday, at 6 p.m. at Klein Family Field.
Pacific will send freshman RHP Michael Benson to the mound for game one. Benson allowed just a pair of earned runs in seven and two-thirds innings against No. 8 Fullerton in his last outing. On the year, he owns a 3.24 ERA but has been saddled with a 2-7 overall record.
Riverside (17-26, 5-10 Big West) runs out RHP Edie Orozco for Friday's game one. The senior has a 4-5 record and a 2.63 ERA. In his last appearance, Orozco lasted 5.0 innings against Cal State Northridge, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Ten of his 15 outs were recorded by strikeout.
On Saturday, the series continues with a 6 p.m. start. Pacific freshman RHP Michael Hager has been bumped up a day in the rotation and tabbed to start. The right-hander is 3-5 on the year with a 5.43 ERA, with 24 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 66.1 innings.
The Highlanders counter with junior RHP Trevor Frank in game two. Frank is 1-6 on the year despite a 3.80 ERA. Last Saturday, he tossed eight innings against Northridge allowing two earned runs on 11 hits, while taking the loss.
Pacific's starter is listed as TBA for Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale. The Highlanders have sophomore LHP Dylan Stuart lined up for the start. He is 5-6 with a 4.44 ERA on the season, after tossing eight shutout innings for the win Sunday against Northridge.
Senior SS/CF Josh Simms is hitting .331 in his last 33 games for Pacific, with 11 multi-hit games in that stretch. Simms posted a two-for-three day with a double in Tuesday's contest while making his first start of the year at third base.
Following the weekend series, Pacific (11-35, 1-14 Big West) closes out the eight-game home stand with a Tuesday game against Santa Clara at 6 p.m.
