Tigers Drop Road Contest At Saint Mary's

Moraga, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team dropped a 73-58 decision at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Feb. 7. The Tigers dropped to 10-14, 2-10 in WCC action, while SMC improved to 18-5 and 10-2 in WCC play.

The Tigers fell behind early, as the Gaels led 4-0 and 13-3 with 15:50 left in the half. Alec Kobre hit a three-pointer for the Tigers to cut it to seven, but the Gaels pushed the lead back up to 13 at 24-11 with 8:18 remaining in the first half. Pacific used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 24-19 at the 5:24 mark, with Ray Bowles scoring four points in the stretch. The Gaels countered with a 7-0 run and took the lead to 17 (39-22) with 1:17 remaining. A three-point play by T.J. Wallace and a jumper by Gabriel Aguirre gave the Tigers the final five points of the half to make it a 39-27 SMC lead at the break.

Pacific fell behind further in the second half, as Emmett Naar hit a pair of three-pointers wrapped around a Wallace free throw to give SMC a 17 point lead (45-28) with 17:51 remaining. The Gaels maintained the double-digit lead throughout the second half, pushing the lead to 19 (51-32) at the 14:05 mark. After a scoreless first half, David Taylor got it going in the second half, scoring five straight and all 11 points in the final 20 minutes. The Tigers cut it to 13 (62-49) with 5:09 left, after a stretch where Wallace scored six of Pacific's eight points.

Wallace had 20 points and six rebounds to lead the Tigers. Taylor had 11 points (all in the second half), while Aguirre added 10 points. Pacific shot 50% in the first half (10-20) and 37% in the second half (10-27) for a 42.6% mark for the game. The Tigers' bench outscored the Gaels 21-3.

The Tigers are next in action with a road game at San Diego on Thursday, Feb. 13. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start and will be televised by theW.tv.
