Tigers Drop Road Contest At San Diego

San Diego, Calif. - The Pacific men's basketball team dropped a 68-48 decision at San Diego on Thursday, Feb. 12. The Tigers dropped to 10-15, 2-11 in WCC action, while San Diego improved to 14-12 and 7-7 in WCC play.

The Tigers fell behind 9-1 in the early part of the contest and 16-5 at the 11:33 mark. Ray Bowles scored seven points in a 9-4 stretch for the Tigers to cut it to 20-14 with 7:13 remaining in the half. After the Toreros scored four straight to get the lead back to 10 (24-14), Gabriel Aguirre scored two straight baskets to get it back to six (24-18) with 2:54 left. USD was able to push the lead back up to 9 (31-22) at halftime.

In the opening minutes of the second half, the Toreros took the lead to 39-25 with 17:34 to play in the game. Jacob Lampkin hit a jumper to end a 7-2 Tiger stretch that cut the lead to nine (41-32) with 11:17 to play in the game. USD responded with an 8-2 run of their own to take the lead to 15 (49-34) with 9:03 remaining. T.J. Wallace scored six straight points for the Tigers to keep pace, but USD hit three three-pointers in a 10-0 stretch to take a 23 point lead and finished with a 68-48 victory.

Wallace led the Tigers with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Bowles added 10 points and six rebounds. Bowles was 2-4 from three-point range, with the rest of the team combining to go 2-12 from behind the arc. The Tigers shot 34.5% from the field (19-55), while the Toreros hit 24 of 49 attempts (49.0%). Pacific was out-rebounded 34-31, though the Tigers had an 11-7 edge in offensive boards.

The Tigers are next in action with a road game at BYU on Saturday, Feb. 14. The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start and will be televised by BYUtv.
