Lakeside, Calif. – The Pacific golf team ended the opening day of the Barona Collegiate Cup in 13th place after finishing with a first round +4 (364) and shooting a second round +10 before play was suspended due to darkness at the Barona Creek Golf Club on Thursday, March 22.
The Tigers landed in 13th behind a first round -2, 70 from junior Alex Edfort on the par 72, 7088 yard Barona Creek Black Course. Freshman Kevin Andrews carded an even, 72 to start his day, while senior Dan Garcia finished the first round with a +1, 73. The Stockton, Calif. native's 13 pars in round one left him tied for the third most at the tournament. Rounding out the opening 18 for the Tigers was the freshman duo of Byron Meth and Eric Sugimoto who finished +2 and +3, respectively.
However, the second round proved more challenging for the Orange and Black on the par 72, 7393 yard Barona Course before play was suspended. Thru 15 holes, Meth posts the low score for Pacific at +1. Following the freshman in round two is combination of Edfort, Garcia and Drew Bender with scores of +2. Edfort will resume play tomorrow on the 17th hole, while Garcia and Bender will pair up to start the back nine. Resuming on the 16th hole will be freshman Kevin Andrews after heading to the clubhouse with a second round +3, while Sugimoto will finish two more holes after shooting +8.
Play will resume tomorrow, March 23 at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start for all players left on the course, followed by round three of the Barona Collegiate Cup immediately after.
