Finishing up play at the OGIO-Santa Barbara Intercollegiate in Santa Barbara, Calif., the Pacific golf team improved one spot on the final leaderboard as the Tigers took home a fourth place finish on Tuesday, March 29. The Tigers shot a final round +8, 296 to end the tournament at +30. Oregon held onto its first day lead as the Ducks cruised to a 27 stroke victory as the lone team to shoot under par for the two-day tournament. As a team the ducks were 12-under par with a three-round total of 852.
Individually, senior Alex Johnson put together the top performance for Pacific throughout the three rounds as the Tucson, Ariz. native picked up his second top-10 finish of the month after climbing to eighth in the standings. For the final round, Johnson fired off a -1, 71, to finish the three-round intercollegiate at 2-over par.
Coming in right behind Johnson with the Tigers' second best single round score was fellow senior Patrick Kucich who also nailed down an even-par, 72 in the final round of action. Hitting par in the final day, Kucich improved his overall standing to 19th as he shot a two-day total of 223, 7-over par.
The overall title went to a pair of Oregon golfers as Daniel Miernicki and Jack Dueminier each ended the tournament at -5, 212.
Pacific will be back on the links on April 15-16 in Provo, Utah when the Tigers take part in the Ping Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU. The tournament will be a warmup for the Tigers as they will head to the Big West Championships two weeks later to compete for the conference title.
