Men's Swimming Falls At No. 3 Stanford

Stanford, Calif. - After a nearly two-month hiatus, the Pacific women's swim team was back in action Saturday, Jan. 7, in a road dual meet at No. 3 Stanford. The Tigers fell 159-92 to their Pacific-12 foe, but the day was not without some impressive showings by the Orange and Black.

"I thought we had solid swims after a long week of hard training," said interim head coach Gus Barrios. "This being our second meet of the week, I felt we competed well."

Three different Tigers notched first-place finishes on the day. Freshman Brandon Presswood claimed the top spot in the 500 Free with a time of 4:50.32. Sophomore Balazs Erdelyi and junior Oliver Simkovic took event titles in the 100 Fly (52.56) and the 200 IM (1:56.60), respectively. The Tigers' 200 Free Relay team, made up of freshman Jason Carnes, Erdelyi, senior Jack Pope, and sophomore Adam Sharp, finished with a time of 1:27.28, also good for first.

Pacific would take the top four spots in the 500 Free as freshman Jeff Peters, junior Zachary Zlotoff, and senior Jack Pope followed Presswood in the finishing order. Peters clocked in with a time of 4:54.72 while Zlotoff and Pope finished with respective marks of 4:57.28 and 5:08.72.

Juniors Dai Wilson and Kevin Schirmer, along with senior Kevin Byers, came in behind Erdelyi in the 100 Fly, taking the top four spots in that event, as well. Wilson came in with a time of 52.05 while Schirmer and Byers finished with times of 53.69 and 55.17, respectively.

The Tigers would do the same in the 200 IM. Byers and seniors Nathan LeRoy and Roger Ward came in behind Simkovic. Byers touched the wall at 2:01.70 while LeRoy and Ward came in at 2:04.05 and 2:06.46, respectively.

Simkovic added a pair of fourth-place finishes on the day. His times of 52.96 in the 100 Back and 1:51.22 in the 200 Back were both good for fourth. LeRoy claimed fourth in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:12.51.

The men will take the next week off from competition before traveling to UC Santa Cruz for a tri meet featuring the hosts as well as Fresno Pacific. The meet is set to get underway at 12 p.m.
