Kale spent four years in the pools of Kamehameha High School in Honolulu, Hawaii before graduating in 2013. He was a two-sport athlete in the pool as a distance freestyler while also playing on the boy's water polo team. One of the top distance swimmers in Hawaii, Kale earned First Team All-Hawaii as a senior while helping lead the Warriors to their second straight state title as a team. He was a member of the 4x50 and 4x100 freestyle relay teams that set Hawaii state high school records during his time at Kamehameha. In Water Polo, Ai was the conference's Player of the Year as a senior as a ultility man for the Warriors.
Kale Ai was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is the son of Polly and Curt Ai. He has two older siblings, Kirby and Kehau. He is pursuing a degree in engineering management.
