San Bruno, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announced the 2014 Men's Tennis All-WCC awards on Monday, as voted on by the league's coaches. Miguel Diaz was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, along with All-WCC Honorable Mention honors, while Sem Verbeek picked up All-WCC Second Team honors. The doubles team of Daniel Alameh and Marlon Brand were named to the All-WCC Second Team.

Diaz captured WCC Freshman of the Year honors after turning in a strong inaugural campaign for Pacific in its return to the league. Diaz posted an overall singles record of 19-9 and went 12-12 in doubles play for the Tigers.

"I am really proud of Miguel Diaz for earning the Freshman of the Year Award for Pacific," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "In our first year back into the WCC, it is absolutely awesome to have a local Northern California player earn this award.  There were other great nominees, but Miguel definitely stood out not only amongst freshmen, but throughout the WCC field.  He is so much fun to watch and it has been really rewarding to be a part of his development.  Miguel was a very good junior but didn't play outside of Northern California much, so this year he has been introduced to the world of international tennis, and by all means embraced the opportunity.  He is a definitely a blessing to our program."

Pacific finished the regular season 11-11 overall and 4-5 in the WCC. The Tigers tied for fifth place and will face No. 6 seed Brigham Young on Wednesday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. at the WCC Championships in San Diego.

"The team and I are very excited about the upcoming conference tournament," said Redondo. "It is not only exciting because we are a part of such a prestigious tennis conference, but we have had a run at every team in the conference in the regular season and feel we have a lot to do there.  It's all about the tournament now and we are going for it.  We finished tied for fifth this season, but believe we have an opportunity against any opponent in the conference and in the country. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch the guys compete. This is a great group of young men. They've shown a lot of professionalism and development this season and this is the time for it all to come together."

The 2014 WCC Tennis Championships begin Wednesday, April 23 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Check out all the details on schedule, pairings and much more at CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL.
