Men’s Tennis Inks John Horoz Garner

STOCKTON, Calif. - University of the Pacific's Men's Tennis Head Coach Ryan Redondo has announced that John (Zeki) Horoz Garner will join the Tigers in the spring of 2018 and will be eligible to play immediately.

"I am very excited to bring John (Zeki) on our young Tiger squad. Zeki has very nice technique and has been training hard this past fall. I believe he made a great decision to come to UOP because of his desire to develop his game for the pro tour," said Redondo. "He had a lot of junior success and has some great experience in collegiate tennis as well having played his freshmen year down in Florida. He will be a great addition to our culture and I expect him to integrate right way in competition and in developing his game to reach the level of his potential and beyond."

Horoz Garner hails from London, England where he had an impressive junior career. He achieved his highest ITF singles ranking in the spring of 2016, checking in at 612 internationally and was also an accomplished doubles player with 18 career ITF doubles victories. Horoz Garner also boasts seven career singles victories include wins against players ranked 341, 444 and 809. Additionally, he has experienced tournament success in the ITF, advancing to the semifinals and finals a combined five different times as a doubles competitor. The Great Britain native also reached the semifinals of the Bishkek Open in Kyrgyzstan, and was a quarterfinalist at the Kuwait G5 as a singles player.

I feel it is a great program for me to develop at and reach my goal of playing high level professional tennis after college whilst still getting a very good degree," said Horoz Garner.

Horoz Garner is a sophomore transfer from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where he spent his freshman year. He spent the majority of his rookie season at doubles finishing with a 2-1 record.
