STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific men's tennis team fell in its home conference opener against No. 49 Brigham Young University on Friday afternoon, 4-0.
The Tigers fall to 3-11 on the season and 0-1 in the West Coast Conference.
In the doubles' competition, Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira dropped their match, 6-1. Ross Watson and Tadiwa Chinamo had the opportunity to claim a win but went unfinished when John Horoz Garner and Johnathan Lieu fell in their match, 6-2, giving the Cougars the 1-0 advantage.
In singles, Pacific completed three out of six matches. El Sallaly fell in No. 4 singles 6-2 before facing a competitive match in the second set but fell, 7-6. Mikayel Khachatryan, at No. 5 singles, dropped his match, 6-0 and 6-1, while Lieu, at No. 6 singles lost in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-5.
The Orange and Black will take a rest before traveling to the University of San Francisco on Friday, March 23.
