High School:
deRooy attended Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School where he played volleyball, basketball and soccer. Led by deRooy, the Royals' volleyball team finished with a 43-5 record. Some of his athletic honors include being named to the All-Manitoba team, Athlete of the Year for his high school, Manitoba Male Athlete of the Year, Manitoba Provincial All-Star, and he was awarded the Dale Iwanoczko Scholarship. 

Personal:
Shane is the son of Peter and Brenda deRooy, and has three siblings: Dustin, Natasha, and Miranda. When he is not playing volleyball, Shane can be found playing other sports and reading. In the classroom Shane will be studying History.
