Men's Volleyball Prepares For Final Fall Matches Against UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine

Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific Men's Volleyball team will finish its fall season with a pair of exhibition matches in Fresno, Calif. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Tigers will take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) foes UC Santa Barbra at 11:00 am and Pepperdine at 4:00 pm in the Clovis West High School gymnasium.
The Tigers are excited for the opportunity to challenge UCSB and Pepperdine, teams that finished seventh and ninth, respectively in the conference last season. However, UC Santa Barbara finished as national Division I runner-up at the NCAA Championships last season. The contest will be five set matches to give the squads the most action before a two-month break from live action.
Pacific is looking forward to seeing where they are after a long string of practices. The Tigers are led by outside hitter Taylor Hughes and libero Javier Caceres who were selected as All-MPSF Honorable Mention in 2011. Hughes led Pacific with 465 points including a team-high 396 kills. On defense the redshirt junior collected 100 blocks. Sophomore Caceres recorded 29 assists in 105 sets, and led the Tigers with 278 digs in 2011.
Other standouts include junior setter Patrick Tunnell and redshirt senior Sean Daley. Tunnel recorded a team-high 998 assists in his 28 starts. He finished the season with an impressive .441 setting percentage. Daley recorded 155 kills while hitting .371 for the Tigers. On the other side of the net he led the team with 116 blocks including 17 block solos.
After the two contests in Fresno, the Tigers will return to the practice court preparing for their first home exhibition game against Thompson Rivers on January 5 the match start time is still TBA.
