Three Men's Volleyball Student-Athletes Earn All-League Honors

Stockton, Calif. –
Javier Caceres of the Pacific men's volleyball squad has been named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Second-Team after his stellar sophomore season earned him all-league honors on Thursday, April 19. The libero from San Juan, Puerto Rico had an outstanding season for the Orange and Black as he tallied 205 digs to average 2.47 per set in league play, good for second best in the MPSF. His 264 digs in all 28 matches was the fourth best in the 20 year history of Pacific Men's Volleyball.

Caceres said of the selection, "I could not have done this without my teammates or coaches. It is obviously a huge honor being selected to the All-MPSF Second-Team, but it would not be possible without the teammeates I compete with everyday in practice and play with during the season."

Earning All-MPSF Honorable Mention selections was the combination of outside hitters senior Florian Gornik and junior Taylor Hughes. Gorink had a great season for the Tigers tallying 323 kills, 15 service aces and 56 total blocks at the net to rank him 15th in the conference with 3.72 points per set. Hughes ended the season with a team-high 342 kills and 88 blocks to average a league 10th best 4.05 points per game.

The Tigers finished the 2012 season on a high note after coming back from two sets down to defeat UC Santa Barbara on Senior Night in the Alex G. Spanos Center on April 14. Pacific ended the year with an 8-20 overall record and finished in a tie for tenth in the MPSF.
