Tigers Topped In Three To No. 1 UC Irvine

No. 11 Pacific Men's Volleyball fell in three sets to No. 1 UC Irvine in the Alex G. Spanos Center on Saturday, February 9.  Pacific dropped the match by the scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-21.

Leading the Tigers for the night was junior outside hitter Adam Troy with nine kills. Junior libero Javier Caceres added nine digs, while senior setter Patrick Tunnell picked up 25 assists.

The loss drops Pacific to 5-4, 3-4 MPSF, and improves UC Irvine to 10-3, 6-3 in conference play.

UC Irvine controlled the opening set, taking the game 25-16. As a team, the Anteaters hit .517 for the set. Leading Pacific in the game was Troy and Taylor Hughes with three kills each. Matthew Houlihan also added a pair of kills, while Tommy Carmody and Christian Ahlin each recorded a kill.

The squads traded points to the 11-all mark of set two before UC Irvine pulled away to take the game 25-15. Tommy Carmody led Pacific with a pair of kills on just two swings in the set.

Pacific and UC Irvine were tied at 17 until UC Irvine rallied for three straight points to gain control of the third set. Troy paced Pacific with five kills, while Matthew Houlihan picked up three kills on five swings.

Kevin Tillie led UC Irvine with 14 kills in the match.

The Tigers are back on the road next weekend with contests against Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge.
