No.15 Pacific Tigers Overpowered BY No.1 USC Trojans

Redshirt sophomore Taylor Hughes (Fallbrook, Calif.) led Pacific with 13 kills (hitting .407), while junior Florian Gornik (Schwechat, Austria) added 12 kills (hitting .409) with 5 digs and freshman Javier Caceres Guaynabo, (Puerto Rico) added 7 digs.
No.15 Pacific led the No.1 team in the country to open the first set up 8-6 before relinquishing 5 straight points and then allowed the Trojans to steadily build on their lead. USC hit a .684 clip and recorded 4.5 blocks in the frame while the Tigers hit .250 and recorded 11 kills. Set Score 25-15.
The second set started off like the first, with Pacific leading 5-3. USC's offensive unit overcame a deficit by scoring 3 consecutive points to forge a 6-5 lead. Pacific unable to keep pace found themselves on the wrong side of an 18-13 score before making a run and with contributions from Gornik, Hughes and redshirt junior Chaz Hindsley (Northfield, Ill.) nearly overcame that margin trailing 22-21. Pacific fell in the frame 25-23
The Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the third set Before the Tigers were able to claw back and claim a 15-14 advantage following a Gornik kill. The Trojans were able to tie the score at 18-18, then USC scored 4 unanswered points to gain control of the set in which it hit .414 and had 4.0 blocks to finish of the match. Set score 25-21.

With the result Pacific dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-7 in the MPSF while the Trojans' overall and MPSF record is now 8-1.
