Stockton, Calif. – Junior Balazs Erdelyi of the Pacific men's water polo team has been named Pacific's Competitor of the Month for the month of November, announced Friday, Dec. 7.
The award is presented each month to a Pacific student-athlete who demonstrates unusual or remarkable competitive spirit.
Erdelyi had a stellar final month of the season for the Tigers, becoming the first player in Pacific history to garner Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year honors. He also led Pacific to a sixth-place finish at the MPSF Tournament after the Tigers were picked ninth in the league's preseason coaches' poll.
The Hungarian native scored 26 goals in November as he propelled Pacific to a three-game winning streak to open the month. Three times he went for four goals and had a five-goal performance against then-No. 4 California. He was named the conference's player of the week after leading the Tigers to a pair of hard-fought road wins against UC Irvine and Long Beach State.
Erdelyi finished the season with 83 goals and a goals-per-game average of 3.46, both of which were tops in the MPSF. He racked up 21 multi-goal games and set a career high with nine scores in the Tigers' win over Santa Clara back in October.
