Long Beach, Calif. - Saturday's University of the Pacific at Long Beach State University women's basketball game has been postponed due to an illness that has affected a number of Pacific student-athletes. The Tigers were struck by a flu outbreak Thursday, leading to the hospitalization of nine players on Friday.
The game will be rescheduled at a date to be determined by the Big West Conference.
"We are certainly disappointed that we are unable to play in tomorrow's game. This is a unique situation, one unlike any that I've ever been a part of," head coach Lynne Roberts said. "At the end of the day, our job is to make decisions based on what is best for our student-athletes. We have been advised by our physicians that our players should not compete."
"We'd like to thank the Big West Conference and Long Beach State athletics for their understanding and cooperation and look forward to getting back on the floor healthy to compete again."
The Tigers fell 63-56 to conference leading Cal State Northridge on Thursday, as a number of Tiger players had their minutes limited due to the flu.
Pacific (14-10, 7-5 Big West) will next play at home on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. against UC Davis.
