Tigers Show Off In Exhibition

STOCKTON, Calif. -  Behind a double-double from Jenelle Grant, the Pacific women's basketball team kicked off the basketball season with a home exhibition win over William Jessup, 95-59, Wednesday at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Grant scored 16 points with 17 rebounds to secure a double-double by halftime.  Desire Finnie scored 15 points with seven rebounds while Chelsea Lidy finished with 16 points. GeAnna Luaulu-Summers added nine points and seven assists in just 20 minutes. Ameela Li also handed out seven assists and added four points.

In their debut appearances with the Tigers, freshmen Savannah Sumsion scored eight points, Anaya Brooklyn McDavid eight points, Isabel Newman five points while Lianna Tillman grabbed a rebound in seven minutes.

Pacific forced 25 turnovers and turned them into 30 points, while holding the Warriors to just seven points off seven Pacific miscues.  The Tigers scored 42 points in the paint and shot 43 percent for the game (36-of-84), while handing out 22 assists.

The Tigers opened to a 10-2 lead and never looked back, forcing 10 first-quarter turnovers by the Warriors for a 30-12 lead after one period.  In the second, Pacific stretched the lead to 52-25 at halftime as Grant hit the locker room with 14 points and 12 boards in 11 minutes of actions in the first half.

In the third, Tylah King hit a pair of three-pointers and the Tigers held the Warriors without a field goal for over five minutes to build a 30-point lead at 62-32. Pacific carried a 71-41 lead into the fourth.

Jessica Blakeslee scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Pacific stretched the margin to the largest lead of the game at 93-57 with 1:32 to go, and cruised to the 36-point victory.

Pacific will open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 13 against Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
