Stockton, Calif. – Pacific field hockey begins its 2011 campaign on Tuesday, August 16 in an exhibition with NorPac rival UC Davis. The contest will begin at 12 p.m. at Brookside Field.
The Tigers return 18 players, including junior Jenna Vivian, who is the teams leading returning scorer after recording five goals and two assists in 2010. Also, senior Amanda Spellman returns after receiving All-NorPac honors last season when she started all 18 games and recorded two assists. In goal, the Tigers feature junior keeper Ashlee Schlesier, who ranks 10th all-time in Pacific history with a save percentage of .724.
Head Coach Linda MacDonald is entering her 14th season with Pacific and is optimistic about the upcoming season. She said, "the importance of the season is how quickly we come together as a team. If we want to be successful we will have to work together, and I feel that is going to be the key."
Tuesday marks the day seven players will make their first appearance in a Pacific uniform, as the freshmen will show off their skills for the first time.
Pacific then takes to the road for two exhibition matches Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 at Cal against Alberta and Stanford. The contests will begin at 2 p.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
