Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific Field Hockey team honored its senior class, and Played Pink against the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Brookside Field. The Tigers battled, but fell to the Aggies 4-1. The loss dropped Pacific to 2-13, and improved UC Davis to 4-11.
UC Davis was first to score when Casey Wollbrinck beat the Pacific defense off a penalty corner. However, the Tigers did not trail for long when senior Robin Nelson beat the Aggie keeper after controlling a rebound off junior Dinah Compton's shot. Nelson said of the goal, "it was off shot set up by a corner, and when I saw the goalie drop to the ground I knew I could beat her by elevating my shot. I was fortunate to lift it and it tied the game."
Nelson added about Senior Day saying, "it was bittersweet, but it was great that we all got to start including Lauren Jeanot. She has battled injuries and it was great to see her out there with the rest of us." Nelson added, "this is a great group of girls and it has been awesome playing with them, but we're not done yet."
Despite being out shot by the Tigers 16-13, the Aggies added two more goals in the first half, and one in the second to push the score to its final place.
Head coach Linda MacDonald hopes for improvement from the team as they prepare for the NorPac Tournament saying, "we need to play with more togetherness. We had more opportunities on offense today, but we need to play a full 70 minutes as a unit as we head to the conference tournament."
Nelson talked about playing her last regular season home game on Brookside Field, "it was strange, but we are going to come out here for practice and get ready for the NorPac Tournament next week."
