Stockton, Calif. – Pacific Field Hockey's incoming freshman Kelsey Gulledge recently received recognition from her high school after a standout career on the field and in the classroom. The midfielder from San Pasqual High School was honored with the United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award and named Outstanding Senior Girl Student-Athlete of the Year.
The soon-to-be Tiger was just one of two students at San Pasqual High School to receive the honors, which are given to a duo of student-athletes that show excellence in academics and athletics. Gulledge said of the honor, "It honestly felt gratifying to be given these awards in front of my family and peers. I have worked extremely hard throughout my career at San Pasqual High School, whether it be in the classroom or on the athletic field. To be recognized for that effort makes me feel accomplished and fulfilled."
Gulledge led her field hockey squad to an Avocado League Championship from 2009-11, and as a team-captain in 2011 she was her team's MVP and received other distinctions including: First-Team All-North County, First-Team All-Avocado League and Second-Team All-CIF-San Diego Section. She also was a member of her varsity basketball team in 2010-11.
Up next for the standout senior is a breakfast honoring other accomplished student-athletes in the San Diego area. Then, she is ready to head to Pacific for her first year of college saying, "I am looking forward to starting a new beginning and meeting new people once I arrive at school. But mostly to become close with the girls of the field hockey team and give it my best. I am excited to show Pacific what I have to offer as a student-athlete just as I did at San Pasqual High School."
