Pacific Takes Home Opener Over Michigan State

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team won their home opener against Michigan State Friday afternoon defeating the Spartans, 4-0.  Junior, Rylee Comeau scored two goals while senior captain Savannah Burns and senior Emma Leach each found the back of the net.

Pacific scored ten minutes into the game when Burns' shot was successful and found the right corner of the net unassisted for the first goal. The Tigers weren't done in the first half as Leach was next to score for Pacific. Nthabi Maine had an initial shot from the penalty corner that was blocked and then setup Leach for the second goal.

Pacific led in shots in the first half taking ten total to Michigan State's four.

During the second half, Comeau took control of the attack netting her first of the season on a beautiful pass from Leach, but that wasn't enough for Comeau as she gave the Orange and Black their fourth goal of the day when Burns sent it in front of the next to Kriekie van Wyk who redirected the ball to Comeau to blast it past the goalie.

Goalkeeper, Marlise van Tonder received the win as she posted a clean sheet against the Spartans with one save in the first and five in the second half.

On the day, van Wyk took four shots and had one assist. Leach finished the match with one shot on goal, one goal and two assists, while Burns took six shots and scored one goal for the Tigers.

The Tigers get ready for Sunday's game against #5 Syracuse which will start at 12 p.m. at the Pacific Field Hockey Turf.
