STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific field hockey team opens conference play Thursday as they travel to Palo Alto to take on #12 Stanford then head to Berkeley to battle California on Saturday.
The Tigers are coming off a 2-1 road trip falling to then #2Connecticut but following up with back-to-back wins over UMass Lowell and Sacred Heart bringing the squad to 3-3 overall. While on the East Coast, Kriekie van Wyk netted a hat trick against UMass Lowell while Savannah Burns racked up four goals and an assist. Ash Rutherford collected five assists over the weekend while also adding her first two goals of the season.
Stanford currently sits at 3-2 on the year with their first five games going up against ranked opponents. The Cardinal started off with a pair of losses to Connecticut and #14 Northwestern before going on a three-game win streak over #17 Iowa, #22 Massachusetts and #20 Harvard.
Last season, the Tigers and Cardinal split during the regular season and were co-divisional champions and met up again in the America East Conference championship where Stanford edged the Tigers in a 1-0 final to secure the America East title and moved on to the NCAA tournament.
On Saturday, the Tigers head to Berkeley to take on California who are 1-3 at home and 3-3 overall after falling to #5 Syracuse, Michigan State and Iowa in their first four games. During the 2016 season, Pacific trounced on the Golden Bears with victories of 3-1 and 4-0. Hayley Kilfoil, Burns, Rutherford and van Wyk all scored on their divisional foes as van Wyk found the back of the net three times agains the Cal defense.
Thursday's matchup in Palo Alto is slated for 7 p.m. and Saturday's contest will begin at 1 p.m. Live stats and streaming of the events can be found at pacifictigers.com.
