Tigers' Win Streak Snapped By Arizona State, 1-0

Tucson, Ariz. - Despite controlling most of the match, the Pacific women's soccer team couldn't crack the scoreboard and for the first time in four matches the Tigers allowed a goal, falling 1-0 to Arizona State Sunday at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort Cats Classic in Tucson.

Kristina Wavomba, who tallied two goals on Friday, was named MVP of the Cats Classic, while Angelica Figueroa and Alex Topp joined her on the All-Tournament Team.

The Tigers out-shot Arizona State 14-8, including a 9-2 advantage in the second half. However, just one of the Tigers scoring chances was on frame.

With 4:17 remaining in regulation, ASU's Alexandra Dollar collected a loose ball in the box, and finished to the upper left side of the net for the lone goal of the match, her fifth of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tashia Long saw her shutout streak ended at 530:36 consecutive minutes between goals allowed. Long hadn't allowed a goal since the fifth minute of a match against USC on August 28. She finished with a pair of saves on the Sun Devils' three shots on goal.

The Tigers fall to 5-4-0 on the season, and drop a match for the first time to a team not receiving votes in the top 25.

Pacific's best chance came in the 77th minute, when senior forward Kristina Wavomba's shot from distance rattled off the underside of the crossbar and junior Kayla Villalpando's quick attempt to the lower right corner on the rebound trickled wide of the post.

ASU becomes the second team this season to hold the Tigers scoreless. Since  being shutout by then-No. 18 San Diego on August 26, Pacific had out-scored its opponents 13-2 with four-straight shutout wins.

The Tigers' 14 shots was tied for their second-highest total of the season.

Arizona State goalkeeper Alyssa Gillmore recorded one save, off a shot by sophomore defender Brittni Beeman in the 32nd minute, for her second shutout of the season. The Sun Devils improve to 4-4-0 on the season.

Pacific is back in action on Friday, at home against San Jose State to wrap up the Tigers' non-conference schedule. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
