Northridge, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision at Cal State Northridge on Friday, October 19. The Tigers fell to 3-11-1 on the year and 0-5-1 in league play, while the Matadors improved to 7-4-5 and 4-1-1 in Big West action.
The Matadors took a 1-0 lead at the 5:47 mark, when Chloe McDaniel scored inside off of a corner kick from Leandra Walker. Melissa Fernandez then made it 2-0 at the 15:05 mark with a goal scored on the far post from the right side 12 yards out. Stephanie Galarze then scored off of a rebound at the 19:05 mark and a shot by Melissa Fernandez deflected into the goal to give the Matadors a 4-0 lead at 19:26. A late goal by Jessa Yukihiro made it 5-0 at halftime. CSUN outshot the Tigers 12-9 in the opening half, but Pacific held a 3-2 edge in corners.
The Tigers had the ball on the offensive end a majority of the second half, outshooting CSUN 13-7 in the final 45 minutes. The Matadors were given a penalty kick that was converted by Cori Deason at the 60:00 mark. Pacific got on the board when senior Kayla Villalpando scored her first goal of the year on a feed from sophomore Pernille Schulze-Larsen at 69:14.
Pacific held a 22-19 advantage in shots and had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
