Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team scored in the final minutes to pull out a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac on Friday, August 29 at Knoles Soccer Field. Senior Malaya Cabrera scored the game-winner on a header at the 87:15 mark. Sophomore Sandra Padilla set up the goal with a great cross with just 2:45 left.
"I was really proud of our effort tonight," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "We did a great job of controlling the ball, and the placement of Sandra's corner along with Malaya's header was exactly what we needed."
The Tigers out-shot Quinnipiac 4-2 in the first half. Sasha Moscatello had a shot off of a free kick at 25:56 that was saved by Natalia Grodzki. Matti Long then deflected a cross from Eliza Hard that was saved by Grodzki. Sophomore Alex Hussar also had a pair of shots.
Pacific also held a 6-3 shot advantage in the second half, including four corners. Another near goal came at 84:53, when freshman Lily Higashino just missed with a header off a corner. Grodzki had four saves for the Bobcats, while senior Jacqueline Kane had one save for the Tigers.
This Sunday the Tigers host Florida International with a 1:00 p.m. start at Knoles Soccer Field.
