Tigers Fall Late To Florida International

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Florida International on Sunday, August 31 at Knoles Soccer Field. Pacific fell to 1-3-0 with the loss, while FIU improved to 2-2-0.

Chelsea Leiva scored the only goal of the match at the 69:46 mark on a header that trickled in after it was knocked down by Tiger goalkeeper Jacqueline Kane. Scarlet Montoya had a through ball to set up the game-winner.

Pacific had a couple of late chances in the second half, with Julia Beck just missing with a header off of a corner by Taylor Ayers in the 85th minute. Just a few moments earlier, Ayers had a shot that was just outside the right post.

The Tigers were out-shot 4-2 in the first half, and 8-5 for the match. Pacific did hold a 5-3 advantage in corners, as well as 17-6 in fouls. Kane ended up with six saves for Pacific.

The next match for the Tigers is a home contest against Canisius on Friday, Sept. 5 at Knoles Soccer Field.
