Santa Clara, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team received their first conference loss of the year in a 3-0 decision to host Santa Clara. The loss brings the Tigers to 1-8-1 overall, 1-1 in WCC play while lifting the Broncos to 4-5-4 on the year, 1-1-1 in conference.
The Tiger defense was challenged early on and did a great job deferring the Bronco attacks and clearing the ball out of the box. In the eleventh minute Jessica Fogel rifled off the first shot for Pacific from the top of the box, however the Bronco 'keeper tracked it down, keeping it scoreless. Meanwhile going the other way Santa Clara continued to pressure the Tiger backfield, logging six shots in the first 23 minutes of play.
In the 31st the Broncos were awarded a free kick near the midline. The ball was sent into the crowded box and bounced around, eventually making its way to the back of the net to put the home team up 1-0. Goalie Lena Perry was constantly tested all night in between the posts. In the 43rd minute Jesolva Jordan sent a laser from the top of the box towards the goal but Perry used her quick hands to punch the ball up and out.
The Broncos continued to press in the final 45 minutes, logging nine shots in the second half. The offensive struggles continued for Pacific as they were held scoreless for the third time this season. Santa Clara would add two more insurance goals within a minute of one another late in regulation, and the home team walked off victorious.
'Keeper Perry had a busy Friday night in goal for the Orange and Black, recording seven saves on 25 shots. In the 28th minute of play the senior recorded her 65th save of the season, giving her 150 for her career which is the fifth-most in program history.
The Tigers are back on the pitch this Sunday at 1 PM against San Francisco. Live video will be available courtesy of theW.tv.
