Irvine, Calif. - For the third time in the 2012 season, junior Nikki Armagost earned Big West Player of the Week honors for her effort in leading the Tigers to a three-game sweep of Cal Poly during the week ending on April 29. The junior picked up Pacific's sixth player of the week award of the season and eighth overall weekly award when combined with the Tigers' two pitcher of the week honors.
Leading the Tigers in an all-around performance at both the plate and in the circle, Armagost finished her three-game series 6-for-9 while adding a walk to post a .700 on-base percentage. Tallying hits in all three games, the junior scored a team-high four runs as Pacific outscored the Mustangs 13-6 during the three-game set. Additionally, Armagost's runs proved to be of importance to the Tigers throughout the weekend as she scored the game-tying run in Pacific's 2-1 win in game one while recording what would go down as the game-winning run in game three of the series.
In addition to her offense, Armagost was just as good in the circle against the Mustangs as she went 2-0 while pitching 13.0 innings in a pair of starts for the Tigers. Armagost gave up just four hits and one run in the opening game, keeping the Mustangs in check for seven innings to earn the complete game victory. One day later, the junior was even better as she allowed just two hits and one more run, including retiring the final 10 batters she faced in a six inning outing.
For the year, Armagost has posted a Big West best .427 batting average, a mark which ranks No. 23 among all Division I hitters. Additionally, Armagost has posted 37 RBI, second most in the Big West, while scoring 35 runs.
