San Bruno, Calif. - With the Pacific Athletic program moving to a new home in the West Coast Conference in 2013-14, the Pacific softball team has learned its fate as well as the conference voted the softball in as an official WCC sport for the 2013-14 season. The Tigers will move with the rest of the Pacific programs into the WCC and play in their new conference home for the 2014 season.
Currently, five WCC schools field softball, but with the addition of the Tigers in 2014, the WCC will have the minimum schools necessary in which to facilitate an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. The Tigers will join BYU, LMU, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, and San Diego as members of the new softball conference. Additionally, the WCC has invited Cal State Bakersfield and Utah Valley State, both members of the soon-to-be defunct Pacific Coast Softball Conference, to join the WCC on a temporary basis while the search for new homes for their programs.
The Tigers will play their final season in the Big West Conference in 2013. Pacific took home the conference title in 2011 and finished 2012 with 34 wins and the conference's top RPI.
