Nearing the midway point in the Big West Conference season, the Pacific softball team will host UC Riverside at Bill Simoni Field on Friday and Saturday in a three game series. The two teams will face off in a doubleheader on Friday, April 22 beginning at 1:00 pm before playing the finale on Saturday, April 23 at 12:00 pm.
Pacific is looking to push its way to the top of the standings as the Tigers enter the weekend one game behind Cal State Fullerton. Overall Pacific is 27-15 while posting a 6-3 conference mark having picked up wins in all three of its weekend series so far. Pacific's 6-3 mark is tied with both Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara through three weeks of action, however, the Tigers hold the tie-breaker over Long Beach State having already defeated the 49ers in a weekend series while having yet to play the Gauchos. The Tigers bring in the Big West's top lineup into the weekend while sporting the third ranked pitching staff.
Last season the Tigers took two of three from the Highlanders on the road as they won games one and three, 11-2 and 6-4, while dropping a 4-3, 13-inning, decision in game two. All-time, Pacific holds a dominating 23-6 record against UC Riverside, but the two teams have split the last six meetings evenly at three game a piece.
The Highlanders enter the weekend seventh in the Big West with a conference record of 3-6 and an overall mark of 10-24. Last weekend, the Highlanders went 1-2 against UC Santa Barbara dropping the first two games of the weekend before taking the finale on Sunday. UC Riverside ranks fourth in the Big West in offense batting .270 on the year while its pitching staff ranks seventh with a 5.51 ERA.
