Tigers Drop Two At Stanford Tournament

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Pacific beach volleyball team fell in both matches Saturday at the Stanford Tournament, as Cal Poly posted a 4-1 win in the morning session and No. 16 California edged Pacific 3-2 in the afternoon.

Pacific gave No. 16 Cal a challenge as the Tigers won the #1 and #2 match ups. Lexi Elman and Andie Shelton rallied for a 15-21, 21-17, 15-13 win over Bryce Bark & Mia Merino at the first match. At second, Katrin Gotterba & Maycie LaBass pulled out a 21-14, 14-21, 15-10 victory over Grace Campbell & Olivia Rodberg.

In fourth spot, Cal's Iya Lindahl & Nicole Anderson eked out a narrow 21-19, 21-19 decision over Janie Feldsher & Alex Holt. The Bears also took the fifth spot, as Teya Neff & Bridget Gustafson downed Ashlyn Fleming & Skylar Wine, 21-9, 21-12.

The match came down to the third spot, where Emily Baptista & Taylor Poncetta rallied from a 17-21 set one against Jessica Gaffney & Camile Stepanof to take set two, 21-13. But in the third set, Cal pulled out the 15-10 win to seal the match.

Against Cal Poly, Gotterba & LaBass won 2-0, 23-21, 21-15, over the Mustangs' Raeann Griesen & Heather Pembroke at the second spot.

Elman & Shelton split the first two sets with Emily Sonny & Hannah Hubbard, but fell in the third, 14-21, 21-12, 15-6. Baptista & Poncetta fell to Adlee Van Winden & Anna Gorman, 21-13, 21-14. At fourth position, Feldsher & Holt were topped by Taylor Gruenwald & Brayden Gruenwald, 21-13, 21-15, while Fleming & Wine split the first two sets, but fell in three to Dora Beilin & Holland Boege, 19-21, 21-17, 15-8.

Pacific falls to 0-3 on the season.

On Sunday, Pacific meets Santa Clara at 9 a.m., and host Stanford at 2 p.m.
