Women's Tennis Topped By Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After a 6-1 win Saturday over Incarnate Word, the Pacific women's tennis team couldn't keep the momentum going Sunday, falling to host Air Force, 6-1. Maayan Sela provide the Tigers point with a singles victory in the number one position.

"We brought better energy today but these matches really exposed some things we need to improve on. Despite the team score, we were a handful of points away from a win," head coach Tina Samara said.

Sela posted her second-straight win, downing Chloe Forlini, 7-6, 6-3.

But at second singles, Elizabeth Barnickel edged out Anneroos Nederstigt in a tightly contested match, 7-6, 7-6. The Falcons' TJ Fumagalli turned in a third singles win over Anna Ramos Vinolas, 6-2, 6-1, while Nadeen Lieberman took fifth singles over Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz, 6-1, 6-1.

At fourth singles, Sabrina Rodriguez rallied in the second set, but ultimately Lily Forlini took the third set, 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Yuki Asami also found herself in a tie-breaker, with Jocelle Rudico coming out on top in sixth singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.

In doubles play, Nederstigt & Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz fell to Barnickel & Fumagalli at first doubles, 6-1. Chloe Forlini & Rudico topped Rodriguez & Asami at second doubles, 6-3. The third doubles match, Sela & Ramos Vinolas against Lily Forlini & Lieberman, went unfinished.

The Tigers fall to 2-2 on the season, while Air Force improves to 4-3.

"We need to get home and focus on getting tougher for our next matches," Samara added.

Pacific will be back in action next Sunday, at home against Cal Poly. First serve from Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center is set for noon.
