Pacific Remains Competitive In Fall Season

MORAGA, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team completed day one of the Saint Mary's Invitational Friday evening as they continue their fall schedule.

Doubles started the day as Maayan Sela and Anneroos Nederstigt teamed up to take on the No. 4 seeded team from San Francisco. The Tiger pair fell to the Dons 8-3 while Yuki Asami and Anna Ramos Vinolas dropped their first doubles match to Alexis Nelson and Maria Smith of California, 8-4. Both pairs moved to the consolation bracket but the Tigers couldn't hold on as Sela and Nederstigt lost 8-7(4) in a close match while Asami and Ramos Vinolas also had a close match but fell 8-7(5).

In Flight A singles, Sela faced the No. 4 seed from host Saint Mary's and took it to three sets but dropped the match, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Ramos Vinolas, also competing in Flight A, took her match from UC Davis winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 while Nederstigt battled hard in a three-set match to Sofia Wicker of Sacramento State but lost 6-0, 3-6, 6-1.

Sabrina Rodriguez continued her stellar fall season taking her match 6-1, 6-0, while Asami fell to the No. 4 seeded Jackie Wagner of San Jose State, 6-4, 6-2.

The Tigers will continue Saturday with Rodriguez and Ramos Vinolas moving to the round of 16, while Nederstigt, Sela and Asami will compete in the consolation bracket.
