Stockton, Calif. - In a battle of the top two teams in the Big West Conference, the Pacific women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of rival UC Davis on Wednesday, September 21. The loss dropped the Tigers to 9-5 on the year and 0-1 in the Big West while the Aggies continued their historic start to the 2011 season by improving to 15-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

In what started as a close battle between the two Northern California rivals turned into a one-sided affair as the Aggies used a hot start to game three to put away the Tigers on their home court. Prior to the lopsided loss in game three, the Tigers and the Aggies were locked in a back-and-forth fight that UC Davis in each of the first two games that UC Davis would come out on top of to take control of the match.
Opening the contest, the Tigers and the Aggies traded big runs with UC Davis taking two of the three runs to put Pacific behind. In game two, the contest played out in a much more even fashion as the teams traded leads and posted seven ties in the first to 25 game. Tied at 22-22, and with the match essentially on the line, the Aggies were able to power through with a pair of kills on the pins to take command of the match.
For the night, the Tigers were led by senior Samantha Misa who posted a match-high 16 kills in 40 attempts. On the other side of the net, Aliison Whitson led the way with 14 kills on 23 swings with just two errors to hit .522 for the match. Additionally, Whitson posteed eight digs and four blocks. Alongside of Whitson, Valerie Brain added 11 kills to the Aggies efforts whle Katie Denny posted nine kills and a match-high six blocks.
Pacific will look to get back on track on Friday, September 23 when the Tigers host UC Irvine in Big West Conference action. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
