Pacific Puts Three On The All-Conference Team
Irvine, Calif. - With the completion of the Big West volleyball season, the Big West Conference released the 2011 All-Conference awards on Tuesday, November 22, placing the Tigers among the conference's best for the second-consecutive season. Earning her second-straight award, senior Samantha Misa was named to the All-Big West First Team to lead the way for the Tigers. Joining her on the all-conference teams was sophomore Jennifer Sanders, who earned honorable mention honors, and freshman Katy Tagart, who was named to the all-freshmen team.
The Tigers top offensive threat throughout the season, Misa finished her Big West campaign as one of the top hitters in the conference as she posted 3.58 kills per game in Big West matches, good enough for No. 5 on the season list. Overall, Misa has averaged 3.78 kills per game and ammassed 389 kills for the year as she enters her final game in the Orange and Black on Friday, November 25, looking to reach the 400 kill plateau. A top all-around player, Misa has posted 13 double-doubles on the year, combining her top offensive skills with a solid back line defense that helped her tally 297 digs (2.88 per game) on the year. In 2011, Misa garnered three all-tournament awards including picking up MVP honors at the Thunderbird Invitational to begin her senior season.
In addition to Misa earning her second-straight award in as many years, Sanders made it two-for-two at Pacific as the sophomore garnered honorable mention honors as one of the top offensive middle blockers in the Big West. The most proficient hitter in the Big West throughout 2011, Sanders finished her Big West season No. 1 in the conference in hitting percentage at .340 with just one match to play in the season. Against Big West opponents, Sanders was nearly as proficient as she tallied a .335 mark to finish fouth among all conference attackers. Offensively, Sanders finished second on the team in kills with 291 as she will need just nine in the Tigers' final match to reach 300 kills for the first time in her young career. Additionally, Sanders proved to be the Tigers' top defensive player at the net in 2011 as she tallied 86 total blocks through 29 matches including posting 15 solo efforts.
Rounding out the Tigers' all-conference honorees, Tagart earned all-freshmen honors to put a Pacific youngster among the conference's top freshmen for the second-straight season. Taking over the starting right-side role midway through her first collegiate season, Tagart made the most of her time on the court as she established herself as one of the Tigers' top defensive players playing all six rotations. Starting half of the Tigers' matches on the year, Tagart enters her final week of the 2011 season with 170 digs and a 2.62 dig per game average. She also added 36 blocks to the Tigers' totals and averaged 0.55 blocks per game for the season. On the offensive side, Tagart has tallied 84 kills on the year for the Tigers while also posting 14 service aces to bring her season point total to 116.5 points. Tagart's 14 service aces, 13 of which came in conference action, ranks the Tiger freshman No. 10 among Big West servers for the year.
The Tigers and their three all-conference honorees will complete their 2011 season on Friday, November 25 at home in the Alex G. Spanos Center when they take on Seattle University. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm and with senior night festivities taking place prior to the start of the match.
