Carter graduated from Eric Hamber Secondary School in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Academically, she was a member of her school's Honor Roll.

Club:
Carter had a very successful career as a member of the Pacific Storm Club. Most recently, she led her U-18 team to a sixth-place finish in the 2011 Canadian Women's National Tournament. Carter was named her team's MVP that same year. In 2010, Carter was part of a U-18 squad that took third in the national tournament, as well as a U-22 team that finished fifth. She garnered the Most Improved award at the conclusion of that season. As a member of Pacific Storm's U-16 team, Carter helped her squad place sixth at the national tournament in 2009 and third in 2008.

Personal:
Carter was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and is the daughter of Deirdre and John Carter. She has two siblings, Jason and Brianne. Jason played water polo for the University of Western Ontario and was a member of Ontario's All-Star Team in 2011. Carter enjoys cooking in her free time and will pursue a degree in business administration.
