Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team proved no match for No. 6 UC Irvine, falling 14-2 Sunday, April 7, in a Big West match at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
Pacific (9-15, 0-3 Big West) found ltself in a hole early as UC Irvine (21-5, 4-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Martin got the Tigers on the board late in the first quarter, trimming the Anteaters lead to three, 4-1, after one quarter. The hosts would tally five more goals in the second frame to take a 9-1 lead into intermission.
The Tigers' offensive struggles continued in the third frame as the hosts ripped off four more goals to extend their advantage to 12, 13-1, with eight minutes left to play. Adair managed to stop UCI's run with a score early in the fourth quarter, but the Anteaters would tack one more goal down the stretch, resulting in the final score.
UC Irvine was paced by Danielle Warde's four-goal effort. Kate Avetoom blocked eight shots for the Anteaters.
Pacific returns home for its final two Big West matches of the season this weekend, taking on No. 17 Cal State Northridge on Saturday and No. 15 UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. Both contests are set to get underway at noon.
