Santa Clara, Calif. -
The Pacific Cross Country team set personal records in their strongest showing of the season at the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara Saturday, October 16th 2010. Freshman Melissa Hopper finished 33rd overall, and set her second best 5k time ever, along with her season best time in the race at 19:25.
Said head coach Josh Jones "The ladies ran extremely well. We had a lot of personal records today. I knew the ladies were ready they just needed to run what their bodies were capable of. We had a rough middle of the season with performance, even though are practices were going well. This was a huge boost for us going into conference. The ladies have even more in them, the confidence is up and there really starting to focus as a team. It was an awesome day."
However, it was a total team effort for the Tigers. Jazmin Quiroz and Marina Ota both set season high marks in the 5k race. Katie Bella, Monica Torres, and Cassi Rush all set personal records on the fast course. Kirstin Kita and Rikki Tobias set season records, and Erin Lussier blasted her personal record by an astounding 2 minutes.
"This race was a great way to commemrerate my first collegiate season. I began mentally preparing myself as soon as our meet at UCSD ended and have had my goal time written on my arm all week," said Lussier "I wound up surpassing my goal by 25 seconds and beat my lifetime PR by two minutes and four seconds. We were focused as a team and it was exemplified through our individual accomplishments.”
The Tigers will have next weekend off as they prepare for the Big West Championships October 30th, 2010.
