Tony McDaniel joined the Pacific Tigers' Media Relations staff in 2018 following three years as a member of the media relations staff at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. At SIU - Carbondale he served as the contact for softball, swimming and diving, women's golf and men's tennis and had assisting roles with football, volleyball and men's and women's basketball. He also grew the SIU softball twitter account in followers by 15%, the highest growth rate of any olympic sport Twitter account at SIU. McDaniel also did play-by-play for select softball games during the 2018 season.
He also held temporary positions in and out of sports throughout his career. In 2017 and 2018, he worked at Priaire State Generating Company, a state of the art, clean-coal power-generating station in Marissa, Illinois in media relations and government affairs. In 2016, he worked as a travelling communications intern for the American Junior Golf Association as well as held a role as a college golf mentor for American Collegiate Development Solutions, a recruiting service for junior golfers. In 2015 he served as the sports editor of the Daily Egyptian a national-awarding winning student-run daily newspaper at Southern Illinois Carbondale. While serving as sports editor, he won the Illinois Collegiate Press Association's Sports Column of the Year Award.
McDaniel was born in Belleville, Illinois and graduated from Southern Illinois University in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in political science.
