Tigers Prep For Dual Meet With UCSB

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific swimming and diving team trek down the coast to Santa Barbara, Calif. this weekend as they take on UC Santa Barbara in a dual meet friendly. 

This will be the first meeting between the two MPSF teams this season. The Tigers are coming off their intrasquad senior meet at Chris Kjeldsen last Friday and the Gauchos head home following their dual meet at UNLV.

Last Time Out:

  • Both the men's and womens teams honored their seniors in an intrasquad friendly this past Friday at Chris Kjelden Pool. The meet was a originally set against the University of Nevada-Reno but they could not make the trip due to unfavorable weather.
  • Prior to this, the men's team competed this month in a dual meet against Stanford (Jan. 11th). There three Tigers (Carter Walles, Yahav Shahaf, and Michael Kang would set three season bests in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 1000 freestyle. 
    • Mackaby Pennington also posted solid dive scores of 245.70 and 279.83 in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
  • The women's last meet was at the UNLV Invite (Nov. 29-Dec. 1). Angela Gagliardo beat her career-best time in the 200 breast (2:13.94) clocking in a time of 2:13.79.
    • Brigid McNally also swam well in the distance events for UOP, taking first in the 1650 free (16:49.51) and second in the 500 free (4:53.86)

Scouting the Opponent:

  •  The Gauchos are coming off a split in their dual meet at UNLV. The women's team took a 140.5-130.5 win over Denver University while the men fell to UNLV, 122-155. 
  • The women's team took four second-place finishes in the meet but Heaven Quintana would highlight the two-day event for UCSB placing first in the 100 breast and 100 butterfly. Quintana would also aid the Gauchos to second place in their opening event, the 200 medley relay.
  • On the men's side, four swimmers secured seven individual first-place finishes during the meet. Alec Cullen, Logan Hotchkiss, and Mason Tittle each recorded a pair of wins in their respective swims. Cullen would draw first in the 100 and 200 breast, Hotchkiss took first place in the 200 and 500 free, and Tittle earned first in the 50 and 100 free events.
