Baseball Shuts Down Long Beach State, 3-1

Stockton, Calif. - Senior LHP John Haberman held Long Beach State to one unearned run and freshman LF Brett Sullivan delivered two RBI hits as the Pacific baseball team downed LBSU 3-1 Friday at Klein Family Field.

Sophomore RHP Mike Hager faced the minimum in the final three innings to record his first save.

Sullivan finished three-for-four with a double and a pair of RBI while sophomore CF Tyler Sullivan went two-for-four with two runs scored and three stolen bases. Freshman DH Gio Brusa added three hits in four trips with an RBI triple in the eighth.

Tyler Sullivan won a seven-pitch battle with LBSU starter RHP Shane Carle leading off the third, singling up the middle. After stealing second, Sullivan scored when Brett Sullivan doubled to the wall in left.

Haberman retired 10 in row until the fifth, when RF Richard Prigatano singled and took second when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. After a sacrifice bunt, LH Josh Guerra singled to knot the game at 1-1.

The Tigers picked up the run back in their half of the fifth, again Tyler Sullivan led off the inning and reached base with a single through the right side. Sullivan stole second and Brett Sullivan ripped a single to right for a 2-1 lead.

In the Long Beach seventh, Haberman allowed a leadoff single and then a double by C Zach Miller, prompting Hager's entrance from the bullpen.

Hager struck out Guerra looking, coaxed an infield pop up and a lazy fly ball to center to escape the jam, and followed that up by retiring the side in the eighth.

Sophomore RF Taylor Murphy worked a one-out walk in the eighth, and Brusa sliced a line drive the other way into the right field corner for his first triple of the season and a 3-1 Pacific lead.

Hager put down Long Beach State in the ninth on 11 pitches for his first career save. Haberman (1-3) finished with 6.0 innings, six hits and three strikeouts while allowing no earned runs or walks.
